2022-08-18 05:57

On August 16th, the Chinese Embassy in Grenada held meeting with Grenadian media, representatives from GIS, MTV, Informer, Grenadian Voice, WeeFM attended. Ambassador Wei Hongtian stated, in a comprehensive way, the solemn position of the Chinese side on the visit by the US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, explained the key points of the white paper titled “The Taiwan Question and China’s Reunification in the New Era” recently released by the Chinese side, China’s economic development achievements and China-Grenada friendly relationship.

Ambassador Wei emphasized that there is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. The one-China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and a basic norm in international relations. In disregard of China's strong opposition and serious representations, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi visited China's Taiwan region. Her insistence on this visit in disregard of the opposition from China seriously violated the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiqués, seriously infringed on China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and seriously undermined peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China has taken resolute and strong countermeasures in response, and these measures are legitimate and necessary. Over 170 countries, including Grenada, spoke up after the visit took place, stressing the importance of upholding the one-China principle and expressing support for China’s efforts to uphold sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ambassador Wei pointed out that China released the white paper titled “The Taiwan Question and China’s Reunification in the New Era”,which outlines in detail the policy and proposition of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese government on realizing national reunification in the new era, and fully demonstrates the firm will and strong determination of the CPC and the Chinese people to pursue national reunification. It is hoped that the Grenadian media will understand and support the position and proposition of the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue and join hands to oppose the irresponsible and detrimental remarks and moves of certain politicians.

Diplomats of the embassy also answered questions from the journalists on the Taiwan question, China-Grenada relationship, practical cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.  The representatives from the media expressed their support to One China Policy, commended the fruitful outcomes of bilateral cooperation, and expected that China-Grenada cooperation will continue to reach new heights.
