On June 23, 2025, H.E. Wei Hongtian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada, along with Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister, and Hon. Delma Thomas, Minister for Youth and Sports of Grenada, attended the completion and handover ceremony of the National Cricket Stadium Renovation Project.

Amb. Wei reviewed the friendly relations and fruitful results of cooperation between China and Grenada since the two countries resumed diplomatic ties in January of 2005, stressing that China-aid projects such as the two stadiums, the Low-income Housing Project, the eight consecutive phases of Agricultural Technical Cooperation Projects, the upgrade project of the Maurice Bishop International Airport and many “Small but Smart” community projects have become symbols of the profound friendship between China and Grenada. This year, the governments of China and Grenada have signed two new Agreements on Economic and Technical Cooperation, hoping to carry out more practical cooperation on the principle of mutual respect and mutual benefit. Amb. Wei reaffirmed that China is committed to supporting Grenada’s development in various fields and forms, and looks forward to closer and more solid relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Mitchell highly praised the hard work of the construction team from Shanghai Baoye Group of China, who overcame numerous difficulties and completed the renovation project on time. The construction, maintenance and upgrading of the National Stadium in Grenada is another example of the continuous development and deepening of relations and friendship between Grenada and China. He expressed deep appreciation and gratitude for the long-term strong support from the Chinese government and its people, stating that the relations between the two countries will continue to grow from strength to strength on the basis of shared principles, mutual respect, mutual trust and close collaboration.
