On the morning of June 20, 2024, a handover ceremony was held for agricultural materials and equipment aided by China, including tractors, small tillers, hand tillers, lawn mowers, sprayers, blenders, pumps and various other materials at the Agricultural Demonstration Center in La Sagesse of St. David, Grenada. A groundbreaking ceremony for ancillary works for the tissue culture lab building and the bamboo weaving workshop was also held at the site. H.E. Wei Hongtian, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada, and Hon. Dickon Mitchell, Prime Minister of Grenada and Member of Parliament for St. David, jointly attended the event. These materials and new equipment will be used for the ongoing implementation of the phase-8 China-Grenada Agricultural Technical Cooperation Project.

    Ambassador Wei said that the agricultural cooperation between China and Grenada has achieved fruitful results and made positive contributions to the economic and social development of Grenada and the enhancement of China-Grenada friendship. He also praised the expertise, hard work, efforts and dedication of the team of Chinese agricultural experts in La Sagesse. He reiterated that China would continue to provide technical assistance and support for the further development and modernization of Grenada’s agriculture. As the 20th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between the two countries is approaching, Ambassador Wei believes that the practical cooperation and mutual benefit between the two countries would surely yield more tangible results and benefit the two countries and two peoples.    In his remarks, Hon. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell expressed his sincere gratitude to China for its continuous assistance and generosity since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries on January 20, 2005. He stressed that agriculture is one of the important pillars of Grenada’s economy, and spoke highly of the cooperation between Grenada and China in the sector of agriculture, especially the fruitful results achieved in the fields of modern technology promotion, productivity improvement, food security, fruit and vegetable self-sufficiency. He appreciated the excellent work done by the team of Chinese agricultural experts, local staff and farmers, and encouraged them to devote more energy to the noble cause of agricultural development and people’s well-being.
