On April 18, 2026, the Caribbean Chinese Cuisine Development Seminar was successfully held in Grenada. Nearly 100 guests attended the event, including H.E. Yang Shu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Grenada, Ms. Merina Jessamy, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Development, H.E. Orlando Romain, Ambassador of Creative Economy of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, H.E. Ian Marshall, Ambassador of Grenada to China, and representatives from Grenada Investment and Development Company, Grenada Tourism Authority, New Life Organization, T.A. Marryshow Community College, Chinese catering industry, and overseas Chinese from various Caribbean countries.

Ambassador Yang briefed the guests on the international development of Chinese cuisine, recognized its important role in promoting Chinese culture and people-to-people exchanges, and expressed China’s willingness to further deepen culinary and cultural exchanges between China and the Caribbean, expand cooperation in tourism, creative economy and other fields, and drive the regional economic development.
The participants shared insights on local catering investment policies, capacity building, culture empowerment and other topics. Relevant institutions released the Report on the Development of Chinese Cuisine in the Caribbean (2026).
Hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Grenada, the seminar was held as a key part of the first Caribbean Chinese Food Festival in Grenada. It aimed to deepen industrial exchanges and cooperation, and better promote the development of Chinese cuisine in the Caribbean region.
